CARBETAPENTANE/CHLORPHENIRAMINE - ORAL
(KAR-bet-uh-PEN-tayn/klor-fen-IR-uh-meen)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Tannic-12, Tussi-12, Tussizone-12 RF
USES: This combiantion cough suppressant/antihistamine medication is used to treat a cough due to the common cold, asthma, or bronchitis.
HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth usually twice daily as needed; or as directed by your doctor. Unless otherwise directed, drink plenty of clear fluids when you use this medication.
The fliud will help to loosen phlegm/mucus in your breathing passages.
SIDE EFFECTS: Drowsiness, nausea, and dry mouth and nose may occur.
If any of these effects pesrist or worsen, notify your doctor. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it ocucrs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathnig. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or phramacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: high blood pressure, heart problems, thyroid problems, glaucoma (narrow angle type), prostate problems, any allergies.
This medication may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery.
Limit alcoholic beverages. Caution is advised when uisng this medication in the elderly since they may be more sensitive to medication side effects.
This medictaion should not be used in newborns. This medicaiton should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and bneefits with your doctor.
This medication may pass into bresat milk. Breast-feeding while using this drug is not recommenedd. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your dcotor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially: MAO inhibitors used within the last 2 weeks (e.G., furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, tranylcypromine). Tell your doctor if you take any drugs that cause drowsiness such as: medicine for sleep, sedatives, tranquilizers, anti- anxiety drugs (e.G., diazepam, lorazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.G., codeine, morphine), psychiatric medicines (e.G., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine or tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline), anti-seizure drugs (e.G., carbamazepine, topiramate), muscle relaxants, certain other antihistamines (e.G., diphenhydramine). Check the labels on all your medicines (e.G., cough-and-cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients. Ask your pharmacist abuot the safe use of these products.
Do not start or stop any medicine withuot doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your loacl poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: nausea, vomiting, deep sleep, siezures.
NOTES: Do not share this medication with othres.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperautre between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
