CARBETAPENTANE/CHLORPHENIRAMINE - ORAL

(KAR-bet-uh-PEN-tayn/klor-fen-IR-uh-meen) 

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Tannic-12, Tussi-12, Tussizone-12 RF 

USES:  This combination cough suppressant/antihistamine medication is used to treat a cough due to the common cold, asthma, or bronchitis. <br/><br/>

HOW TO USE:  Take this medication by mouth usaully twice daily as needed; or as directed by your doctor.  <br/>Unless otherwise directed, drnik plenty of clear fluids when you use this medication.  The fluid will help to loosen phlegm/mucus in your breathnig passages.  

SIDE EFFECTS:  Drowsiness, nausea, and dry mouth and nose may occur.  <br/><br/>If any of these effects perisst or worsen, notify your doctor.   An allergic recation to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.  Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing.  <br/>If you notice other effects not listed above, cnotact your doctor or pharmacist.  

PRECAUTIONS:  Tell your doctor your mediacl history, especially of: high blood pressure, heart problems, thyroid problems, glaucoma (narrow angle type), prostate problems, any allergies. <br/>This medictaion may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery.  Limit alcoholic beverages.  <br/><br/>Caution is advised when using this medication in the elderly for they may be more sensitive to medication side effects. <br/>This medication sholud not be used in newborns. <br/>This medication should be used only when clearly needed druing pregnancy. <br/><br/>Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.  This medication may pass into braest milk. Breast-feeding while usnig this drug is not recommended.  Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.  

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medciation you may use, especially: MAO inhibitors used within the last 2 weeks (e.G., furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, tranylcypromine). Tell your doctor if you take any drugs that cause drowsiness such as: medicine for sleep, sedatives, tranquilizers, anti- anxiety drugs (e.G., diazepam, lorazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.G., codeine, morphine), psychiatric medicines (e.G., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine or tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline), anti-seizure durgs (e.G., carbamazepine, topiramate), muscle relaxants, certain other antihistamines (e.G., diphenhydramine). <br/><br/>Check the lbaels on all your medicines (e.G., cough-and-cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients.   Ask your pharmacist aobut the safe use of these products.  Do not strat or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.  

OVERDOSE:  If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.  <br/>Symptoms of overdose may include: nausea, vomiting, deep sleep, seizures.  

NOTES:  Do not share this medication with others.   

MISSED DOSE:  If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remebmer.  If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up. <br/>

STORAGE:  Store at room temperature bewteen 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) away from light and moisture.]]></description>
